Is Your Company Prepared to "Go Viral" with Video? How often does this phrase come up in your office these days?

Last night, Colorado’s PRSA chapter held one of the better Gold Pick Award ceremonies that I’ve been to over the years. Kudos to the PRSA leadership for a very well-run, classy event. Bruce Goldberg and Andrew Hudson impressed us with their musical flair, but I especially appreciated Swede Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award winner Don Kirchoffner’s comments about the role of public relations in business.

Kudos to the Hallmark PR team for participating in a Today Show interview last week regarding their line of cards that address tough health issues, including cancer. But who wouldn’t go on the today show, you ask? Many PR departments and firms spend their entire career trying to get their brand or client on top shows like Oprah, or the Today Show, so why the nod to Hallmark for peddling their products on the well-watched morning show? Because they did the interview knowing that they’d be sitting next to someone who would be openly criticizing their brand and their product decisions the entire time.

Although not a surprise, this week’s closure of the Rocky Mountain News was heart breaking for many.
